High-quality coating dies – Quality by Amphenol

Tools for the wire enamelling industry

The production of high quality coating nozzles is a demanding and high-precision process that covers all phases from material procurement through the entire production chain to the final surface treatment. The corating dies are made of corrosion-resistant aluminum, brass, Arcap or stainless steel, often with a wear-resistant tungsten carbide insert or polycrystalline diamond (PCD) core. The latter is specially sintered to provide an optimized geometry for uniform paint application as the wires are pulled through.

Amphenol Precision Optics GmbH uses state of the art CNC machining and manufacturing equipment for the precision manufacturing of the individual components, such as the die body. This ensures exceptionally high manufacturing accuracy. Continuous quality control ensures that each product meets the highest standards and fully satisfies the requirements of the application.

Coating dies for round wire

Whether horizontal or vertical coating systems, modern wire enameling machines require suitable dies for their high line speeds. Especially for wires with very small diameters down to 20 µm, as used in microelectronics, careless die selection can quickly lead to inadequate coating and high scrap rates in further processing. Amphenol Precision Optics GmbH offers a range of selected coating dies for both types of systems.

Enclosed coating dies from Amphenol Precision Optics are economical to use and ensure a high degree of uniformity of the coating layer on wires or fibers in both horizontal and vertical applications. The bodies are made of corrosion resistant stainless steel and the inserts are made of wear resistant tungsten carbide or polycrystalline diamond (PCD). All coating dies are provided with solvent-resistant laser marking for optimum identification. The program includes 5 types for horizontal and 8 types for vertical use for wire diameters from 0.10 – 5.50 mm. Amphenol Precision Optics also manufactures customized versions.

Coating dies for lat wire

Flat wires play an important role in modern electric motor technology, especially in applications that require high efficiency and compact design. Compared to traditional round wires, flat wires offer several advantages that make them the preferred choice in electric motors.

Due to their flat shape, flat wires allow for higher packing density in the motor windings, minimizing space requirements while maximizing performance. This results in better heat dissipation and higher current density, which increases motor efficiency and reduces power loss.

For enamelling flat wire, Amphenol Precision Optics offers a tool with four adjustable base segments equipped with enamel stripper rollers and a tension spring that adjusts the tool to the size of the flat wire.

The tool is manufactured in standard sizes with radii of 0.50 – 1.25 mm or chamfers (0.12, 0.25, 0.32, 0.40, 0.50) and lengths of 18 – 35 mm. (Other lengths, pitches and depths available upon request).
